Originally from North Carolina, Kelly grew up on a small farm in North Carolina. Kelly began painting as a child, and studied advanced art, ceramics, french, and theatre throughout school.
Her late mother, Carolyn was Miss Lone Hickory 1968 and Kelly credits her for her acting and artistic talents. Along with her father, who is skilled with metal working, teaching Kelly to weld her sculptures at the age of 17.
She then moved to Wilmington, NC to study Art at University of NC at Wilmington where she earned her BA Degree in Studio Art with a concentration in painting
She also studied color and design, photography, figure painting/drawing, watercolor, art history, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, poetry, film, and acting.
Her work as a Painter is often inspired by her travels, the beauty of the ocean, clouds, light, color, the human form and the challenge of capturing it.
Post University she began a career in Photography working 15+ years with publications in NC, CA, SC & VA.
